Designing with Intent: How We Turn Concepts into Homes

At Cabana, we believe architecture is more than just buildings—it’s about creating spaces that feel lived in before the first brick is even laid. This month, we wrapped up a project in Montauk that perfectly captures what we mean when we say “designing with intent.”
The client came to us with a simple ask: make it feel like a beach house without screaming ‘beach house.’ What followed was months of exploration, from hand-sketching rooflines that echo dune shapes to sourcing reclaimed wood from local boatyards for the flooring.
But what made this project special wasn’t just the materials—it was the story. The house is built around a central courtyard that catches the morning light and shields against the wind off the Atlantic. It’s where the family now eats breakfast, does puzzles, and watches summer storms roll in. That wasn’t in the brief. But it’s where thoughtful design meets real life.
We don’t follow trends. We follow context, feeling, and function. Every home we build is a response—to the land, to the family, and to what it means to feel at ease in your space.
Stay tuned for a full photo tour next week. In the meantime, we’ll be on-site in Hudson Valley, chasing golden hour for our next project.
